Top Job Interview Tips

  • Location: Know where the interview is and be punctual.
  • Grooming: For women; a co-ordinated skirt, jacket and blouse. For men; a suit, collared shirt and tie.
  • Research: thoroughly research the company including a visit to their website. This may prompt you with some questions to ask in the interview which will demonstrate your enthusiasm and interest.
  • Questions: Be prepared to answer and ask questions. Prepare yourself by thinking of specific examples that demonstrate your competencies and experience.
  • Body language and eye contact: Pay attention to your body language and maintain eye contact with your interviewer, ensuring you look at all interviewers if there is more than one.
  • Be confident and show your enthusiasm for the job: Look the interviewer in the eye and say “I believe that I have the right skills and am very interested in the job”.

Your Sage MicrOpay Consultant will have strived to know as much about you, your needs, aspirations, dislikes, etc as possible. All these details as well as your resume will have been passed onto the client.

Therefore your 1st stage has been completed; it is now up to you to demonstrate your competencies and suitability for the job to the client, as you have done with your Sage MicrOpay Consultant.

The interview process can be lengthy, be prepared for this and follow the steps to success!!

  1. First interview, first impressions count! Follow the interview tips above as well as follow the advice in the interview preparation section. Ask the interviewer if they have any reservations so you have an opportunity to counter these.

  2. Feedback, phone your Sage MicrOpay Consultant straightaway. What are the pros and cons? What do you think the interviewer saw as your strengths and weaknesses? Were there any issues you struggled with or anything you were surprised not to be asked? Give honest feedback, therefore your Sage MicrOpay Consultant is prepared for questions the client may ask.

  3. 2nd interview, GOLDEN RULE, treat your second interview as your first! There will probably be a different person present, maybe the decision maker. Whatever formula got you though the 1st interview needs to be used at this interview also. Too many people relax at this stage, and act as though they already have the job, this is often misread as arrogance.

Phone your Sage MicrOpay Consultant and debrief.

Remember, the process can take a few days or even weeks, so keep your consultant up to date with progress and above all be patient.
